USES IN AROMATHERAPY
Used in aromatherapy, Wintergreen essential oil is very strong and can stimulate powerful responses and profound changes in our body and mind complexes.
Known to exude a minty and warming medicinal aroma, the oil can awaken senses and our bodily system. When used in diffuser, it does not just revitalize and deodorize our indoor atmosphere, it also helps to elevate our mood to improve any negative feeling, stress, mental pressure for a more balanced state of emotions.
Its strong scent is also reputed to heighten our sensory perception.
Wintergreen is a chemically simple oil as it naturally comprises about 96% to 99% of an ester, methyl salicylate.
This compound is behind the essential oil’s cooling sensation. It works by causing the skin to feel cool, then warm; reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.
This explains why it is so popularly used in massage to contribute a comforting yet invigorating effect on tired, tender and overworked muscles. The pain-relieving benefits also help to soothe headaches and discomfort associated with back, nerves and joints.
You can find this ingredient in muscles rubs or pain formulations for arthritis, rheumatism, gout and other painful complaints. The soothing effect comes from the analgesic effects of the oil on nerves in the sense that it is able to temporarily numb painful sites whilst simultaneously clear obstruction to the blood flow thus increasing circulating and bringing warmth to the tissues.
These qualities are also highly valuable for frost bites, injuries, stings or bites caused by poisonous insects and animals. It is said to be able to eliminate odour-causing bacteria, prevent hair loss and improve skin complexion.
Due to its stimulating and carminative properties, Wintergreen can support digestion, enhance metabolic function and promote body detoxification. It prevents toxins, uric acids, fat and excess liquid from accumulating inside our body tissues. By facilitating them to be excreted, our body will naturally shed the excess weight. In the process of stimulating the proper secretion of gastric juices and biles, it also supports the proper functioning of our lungs, intestines and digestive organs to eliminate congestion and waste. Let’s not forget to mention it helps manage cravings too by suppressing the appetite.
